✨ KOKO IS TWO TODAY! ✨

As we hit the 2 Year Anniversary of KOKO Dance Academy, I’ve been reflecting on the wild journey it’s been.

I started dance classes when I was in Year 7 and since then, I’ve breathed dancing, singing and acting. As a child with a disabled parent, I was fortunate enough to be given opportunities to help support my passion. From being a part of a ballet company, singing lessons and assisting in classes, my life was always filled with happiness focusing on dance exams and performances, even if there were very difficult times in my home life.

I didn’t even think it was possible to have a career in dance until I was introduced to the idea of a foundation course, with the focus on getting a scholarship into professional training. Without a DaDA (Dance and Drama Award) there would be absolutely no chance I could afford to go to dance school.

I graduated in 2018, leaving a term early to start my contract at Disneyland Paris and I performed regularly until covid stopped the world. Since 2018, teaching was a welcome constant in my life and I didn’t realise I was making a positive impact on children at first. I really grew as a dance teacher whilst living in Bristol.

When moving to Cardiff in 2022, I struggled to find weekly teaching work and decided to start my own school. I wasn’t naive to the fact I’d have to quickly learn how to run a business as well as work out how I could pass on the love for dance to my students. If there was any period in my life I’d be able to take this major risk, it was then. I’m grateful I worked for some great people in Cardiff during my time here (Thanks PQA and Kris at Kinetic!) which helped get me on my feet.

Flash forward through lots of trial and error, 2 shows, building my amazing team and creating memories with all my dancers and their families, it’s been an incredible ride!

I have exciting things in the works such as the school performing at Wales Millennium Centre and I cannot wait for the future of Team KOKO! Thank you to everyone for their support over the last 2 years - without it, KOKO wouldn’t be possible

Love, Keziah x
