The cold, short days feel like they’ll last forever, but the end is in sight. Just about. It’s hard for everyone to stay motivated and energised when you rarely see sunlight, and for children and teenagers, it truly can feel like winter will never end!

Here’s some tips to keep them going in this chilly months:

  • Keep the routine – motivation comes after action. Turning up matters more than feeling motivated.

  • Set tiny goals – not “be amazing at dance”, but “turn up every week this half-term”.

  • Have something to look forward to – a show, workshop, new routine or theme gives purpose in the darker months.

  • Celebrate effort, not results – progress in winter is quieter, but it still counts.

  • Lean on the group – dancing with friends massively boosts mood and energy.

  • Remember this is the hardest bit of the year – if they can keep going now, everything feels easier by spring.

And the good news? By February 1st, the evenings start getting lighter again in Cardiff. It’s a small shift, but it makes a big difference.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been planning lots of fun community events for everyone to enjoy over the coming months – things that bring dancers, families and friends together, not just classes.

And a big one for the diary already – save the date: Sunday 19 July for our Summer Show at St Cyres School in Penarth . It might feel far away now, but it’ll be here before we know it, and it gives everyone something exciting to work towards.
